Sunflower Iris Blue — Sunflower Bouquet in Blue Wrap

Why the Blue Wrap

Blue is an unusual choice for floral wrapping paper, and it works because it sits at the opposite end of the colour wheel from the sunflower’s yellow — the contrast makes the bloom read as brighter rather than competing with it. It’s also simply a distinctive presentation: most sunflower bouquets use kraft or neutral wrap, and this version stands out visually if you want something a little different from the expected look.

Caring for Sunflowers

Sunflowers drink considerably more than most cut flowers, and this catches people out:

1. Check the water daily. A single sunflower can empty a small vase in 24 hours. Thirst, not age, is the usual reason sunflowers wilt early
2. Trim on arrival and re-trim every couple of days at a 45° angle under running water
3. Use a heavier vase — sunflower heads are top-heavy and will tip a light one
4. Strip submerged leaves and change the water every two days
5. Keep away from aircon vents, direct sun and fruit bowls. Ripening fruit releases ethylene gas, which ages flowers quickly

Statice and caspia will outlast everything else and dry well — once the sunflower fades, the remaining stems make a small dried arrangement.
