Why the Extra Foliage Matters

Most red rose bouquets use white filler and call it done. Adding ruscus and dark purple statice gives this one more depth and a richer overall palette — the deep purple sets off the red rather than diluting it, and the glossy ruscus adds a texture that plain baby’s breath alone doesn’t provide. How to Keep Them Fresh

1. Unwrap and trim. Cut 2–3cm off each stem at a 45° angle under running water.
2. Use clean, cool water. Change it every two days and rinse the vase each time.
3. Strip submerged leaves. Anything below the waterline rots and clouds the water.
4. Keep away from aircon vents, direct sun and fruit bowls. Ripening fruit releases ethylene gas, which ages flowers quickly.

Ruscus and statice both outlast the roses comfortably, and the statice dries well once the fresh blooms fade.
