Artificial flowers and plants offer the beauty of nature without the need for constant care. However, like any decor item, they accumulate dust over time, which can dull their appearance. Regular cleaning is essential to keep your artificial botanicals looking fresh and vibrant. In this blog post, we’ll guide you through simple and effective methods to clean your artificial flowers and plants, ensuring they maintain their allure and charm for years to come.
1. Cleaning of Artificial Silk Flowers:
A weekly dusting of Artificial Silk flowers using a Micro-fibre cloth/rag,
feather duster. Ensure that dusting is done outside otherwise, the dust
will remain in an enclosed room. Vacuuming of Artificial Silk flowers is
preferred.
A monthly wash will be preferred to ensure the cleanliness of the flowers.
Firstly, we will have a pail of water filled with very mild soap (This is
to ensure that the color doesn’t fade after the wash.) and soaped the
flowers for 5 minutes or so. After soaping the Artificial Silk flowers
gently brush them and rinse it in clean water. You can leave it to dry
naturally or by using a hair dryer to speed up the process.
2. Cleaning of Artificial Latex/Plastic Flowers:
Dusting it weekly with a micro-fiber cloth will do or by using a feather
duster.
Monthly rinsing (With room temperature or cool water) of Artificial
Latex/Plastic flowers are necessary to prevent dusty stains and small
areas of dust accumulation. This is to retain a fresh look on the
artificial flower. If your latex flower starts getting sticky, use soap
and lukewarm water to rinse it gently to prevent stretches on the Latex
flower.
3. Cleaning of Artificial Metallic Flowers:
Weekly wiping of metallic flowers is required. If you are using wet wipes,
do remember not to let water settles too long which might cause rust. If
rust starts to form, use WD-40 Multi-purpose oil to remove and maintain
the artificial metallic flower. To prevent rust, you can place it in the
area with cool dry air rather than humid conditions.
4. Clay/Glass
Maintenance of Clay/ Glass artificial flower:
It is the easiest of all, however, it is fragile and brittle. Using a
feather duster or microfiber cloth to wipe it will be sufficient.
Polishing of Clay artificial flower will be required once every 3 months
or so, depending on its condition. Polish the clay using a water-based
acrylic by either dipping it in the polish or brushing it onto the
surface.
5. Cleaning of handmade Stocking Artificial flowers:
Dusting it will be the most preferred, otherwise, you can use a cleaning
spray. If the wire gets rusty the artificial stocking flowers will be
corroded or stained by the brownish rust and it will be time to throw it
away.
Cleaning artificial flowers and plants is a simple yet crucial task to maintain their appearance and ensure they continue to enhance your space with their lifelike beauty. By following these methods and incorporating regular maintenance into your routine, you can easily remove everyday dust and keep your faux botanicals looking fresh and vibrant for years to come.
