  1. Unwrap and trim. Cut 2–3cm off each stem at a 45° angle under running water.
  2. Use clean, cool water, changed every two days, rinsing the vase each time.
  3. Strip submerged leaves. Anything below the waterline rots and clouds the water.
  4. Keep away from aircon vents, direct sun and fruit bowls. Ripening fruit releases ethylene gas, which ages flowers quickly.

The statice will outlast the carnations comfortably and dries well — once the fresh blooms fade, hang the remaining stems for a small dried arrangement.
