Artificial Skybird Plant — 220cm Tall Floor Plant
Broad, waxy paddle leaves carried on tall green stems from a central clump, standing at approximately 220cm. The Skybird is one of the tallest plants in our artificial range, and at this scale it stops being décor and starts doing architectural work — filling vertical volume that furniture and shorter planting simply can’t reach.
The leaf form is deeply tropical without being fussy: large, clean, uncluttered paddles rather than fine or heavily patterned foliage. That’s much of why it specifies well in commercial interiors — it reads clearly from a distance and doesn’t compete with an existing scheme.
This Is a Specialist Height
Be honest about the ceiling before ordering. At 2.2m the plant needs roughly 2.8m of clearance to look proportioned rather than compressed — which rules out most standard HDB and older condo ceilings, where it will read as crowded even if it physically fits.
Where it belongs:
- Double-height living rooms — penthouses, maisonettes, loft-style units where a smaller plant vanishes against the wall
- Hotel lobbies and reception atriums — the scale that reads correctly across a large floor plate
- Stairwells and mezzanine edges — filling vertical volume nothing shorter reaches
- Retail and showroom fit-outs — greenery visible above fixtures and display units
- Office atriums and lift lobbies — part of our office artificial plant programme
- F&B interiors with high ceilings — restaurants and bars in converted or purpose-built double-height spaces
- Event and stage builds — instant scale for backdrops and entrance features; see our wedding and event décor
If your ceiling is standard height, the 100cm Skybird or one of our medium plants 2.5–4ft will look considerably better in the space.
Choosing Your Size
| Height | Ceiling needed | Best position |
|---|---|---|
| Skybird 100cm | Any | Beside sofas, on sideboards, in alcoves |
| Skybird 220cm (this) | 2.8m+ | Double-height spaces, atriums, stairwells, retail |
Why Artificial at This Scale
A living plant of this size is a serious commitment. Large-leaved tropicals need hours of bright indirect light daily — which a lift lobby or an internal atrium simply doesn’t provide — and at 2.2m the practical problems compound: watering requires access, repotting requires two people, and dropped leaves at that height land across a wide floor area.
More to the point, large specimens are expensive and slow to replace. When a 2.2m plant declines in a hotel lobby, you’re not swapping a $40 pot plant; you’re managing a visible failure in a public space.
The Skybird holds its form indefinitely in any light, needs no access for maintenance, and looks identical in year five.
Construction & Detail
- Individually moulded leaves with embossed midribs and lateral veining — important at this scale, where leaves are viewed at eye level and above
- Tall green stems emerging from a central clump rather than a single artificial trunk
- Wire-cored petioles allowing each leaf to be angled and fanned independently
- Matte foliage finish — gloss is especially obvious on large leaves under downlighting
- Weighted pot base — essential at this height, particularly near doorways and air-con outlets
Delivery & Handling
A 2.2m plant is a logistics item, not a parcel. It requires van delivery — it will not fit in a car — and it’s most easily handled by two people. Before ordering, check the route: lift dimensions, doorway heights and any tight corners between the loading bay and the final position.
It arrives with the foliage folded to protect the leaves in transit. For commercial installations we deliver and set up on site, including positioning and crown arrangement.
Styling Notes
Fan the leaves, don’t bunch them. Spread the stems so leaves sit at varied heights and angles rather than clustering. At this scale, bunched foliage is visible from across a large room and is the single biggest giveaway.
Angle the lower leaves down. Mature planting droops at the base. Every leaf pointing upward looks manufactured, and the effect is magnified at height.
Match the planter to the scale. A 2.2m plant in a small pot looks precarious and cheap. Use a substantial planter, 45–55cm in diameter with real visual weight — browse our planter range.
Give it room. At 90–110cm of spread it needs clearance on all sides. Pushed into a tight corner, the leaves crush and the silhouette is lost.
Consider a pair. In lobbies and atriums, two flanking an entrance or seating area reads as deliberate architecture in a way a single plant doesn’t.
Care & Longevity
Wipe the leaves with a soft dry cloth every few weeks — broad leaves show dust readily, and at this height upper leaves collect it where nobody notices until it’s obvious. An extendable duster helps. Avoid oil-based sprays. For commercial installations we offer scheduled cleaning as part of our maintenance contracts.
Outdoor Use
Suitable for sheltered semi-outdoor positions such as covered atriums, roofed walkways and shaded verandas. At this height, wind exposure matters as much as sun — an unsheltered 2.2m plant will topple in a squall regardless of pot weighting. For exposed positions, ask about UV-stabilised outdoor-grade options and appropriate anchoring.
Corporate & Project Supply
Craftway Floral has supplied artificial greenery to Singapore businesses since 1990. Plants at this scale are predominantly a commercial line for us — hotels, developers, retail chains, F&B groups, showrooms and event builders. We survey, specify, supply, deliver, install and maintain.
