Artificial Ball Topiary Tree — 5ft Single Tier
A single clipped sphere of dense, fine foliage carried on a natural branch stem, standing at roughly 5ft. It’s the most formal shape in decorative planting and the most immediately recognisable — a topiary at a doorway signals care and permanence in a way no other plant does.
The ball measures approximately 35–40cm across, sized so that a pair reads clearly from the street or across a lobby without dominating an entrance.
Why Real Topiary Doesn’t Work Here
The classic topiary ball is boxwood, and boxwood is a temperate plant. It wants cool winters, moderate humidity and good air movement — the opposite of Singapore. Grown here it struggles with the constant heat and humidity, and it’s vulnerable to box blight, which spreads rapidly in exactly these conditions and disfigures a sphere permanently once it takes hold.
Local landscapers who do produce topiary use substitute species and clip them continuously. A formal sphere doesn’t hold its shape by itself — it requires trimming every few weeks, and one missed cycle is visible for months while it grows back. That’s a maintenance contract, not a plant purchase.
An artificial topiary holds a perfect sphere permanently, in full shade or none, with no clipping schedule and no blight risk. For this particular form, the case is stronger than for almost any other plant.
Buy Them in Pairs
Topiary is symmetrical, formal planting — it works by flanking something. A single topiary in an open space tends to look stranded; two on either side of a door immediately look intentional and deliberate.
- Front doors and gates — the classic use, in homes, landed properties and condos
- Shopfronts and retail entrances — formality and greenery in almost no floor area
- Hotel and office lobbies — flanking reception desks, lift lobbies and entrance doors
- F&B entrances — defining a doorway or the edge of an outdoor seating zone
- Weddings and events — aisle framing, altar and stage flanking, photo backdrops; see our wedding décor range
- Grand openings — paired alongside opening flower stands
- Christmas — the sphere takes lights, ribbon and baubles beautifully; see our Christmas range
Construction & Detail
- Dense fine-leaf foliage packed tightly enough that the internal frame doesn’t show through — the most common failure in cheap topiary
- True spherical form rather than a flattened or lopsided ball, which is what makes formal planting read as formal
- Natural branch stem with genuine bark texture, rather than a plastic dowel or a wrapped pole
- Matte foliage finish — gloss is immediately obvious on a dense sphere
- Weighted base pot for stability, which matters in doorways and breezy entrance positions
Indoor and Outdoor Use
Indoors and in sheltered outdoor positions — covered porches, roofed entrances, shaded walkways — this will hold its colour for years.
For fully exposed positions such as open driveways, unshaded gates or west-facing frontages, please ask us about UV-stabilised outdoor-grade topiary before ordering. A dense ball of small leaves in direct equatorial sun fades faster than any other artificial form, and specifying the right grade upfront costs far less than replacing a faded pair a year later. We’d rather tell you this now than sell you the wrong thing.
Care
Indoors, dust every few weeks with a soft brush or a vacuum on low with a brush head. Outdoors and in sheltered positions, a gentle hose rinse clears accumulated dust and haze residue. Avoid high-pressure washing, which dislodges foliage from the frame. For entrance installations we offer scheduled cleaning as part of our maintenance contracts.
Styling Notes
Match the pair carefully. If you’re buying two, take them from the same batch. Slight variation between production runs is invisible on a single plant and glaring on a flanking pair.
Pot both identically. Symmetry is the entire effect. Two matching planters, same height, same finish — 30–35cm diameter suits these proportions. Browse our planter range.
Dress the base with moss or river pebbles. On a bare-stem plant the pot surface is fully visible and unavoidable.
Fluff the sphere on arrival. Foliage compresses in transit. Work around the ball with your fingers, teasing leaves outward until the outline is even — an unevenly compressed sphere is the one thing that gives artificial topiary away.
