Artificial Rubber Plant — 150cm
Broad, glossy, dark green leaves on sturdy stems, rising to approximately 150cm — the classic silhouette of Ficus elastica, the rubber plant, one of the most enduringly popular statement plants in interior design. Its large, deeply glossy leaves catch light in a way few other foliage types do, giving even a single specimen genuine visual weight in a room.
The Detail Most Artificial Rubber Plants Skip
Look closely at a real rubber plant and you’ll notice something distinctive: each new leaf emerges wrapped in a reddish, papery sheath that protects it as it unfurls, then drops away once the leaf has fully opened. That reddish new growth — visible at the growing tips — is one of the plant’s defining features, and it’s reproduced here rather than glossed over. It’s a small detail, but it’s exactly the kind of thing that separates a convincing replica from a generic green plastic plant.
Rubber Plant or Fiddle Leaf Fig? A Quick Note
Both are popular Ficus statement plants and easily confused in listings. The rubber plant (Ficus elastica, this product) has broad, oval, deeply glossy leaves and a more compact, upright growth habit. The fiddle leaf fig (Ficus lyrata) has larger, matte, violin-shaped leaves with prominent veining and a more sculptural, sparser silhouette. If you’re matching a specific look, glossy and oval means rubber plant; matte and violin-shaped means fiddle leaf fig.
Why Artificial Works Well Here
Real rubber plant is genuinely one of the more forgiving Ficus species, but it has two well-known quirks. It drops leaves dramatically in response to any change — a house move, a rotated pot, inconsistent watering — often shedding several leaves at once as a stress response. And the darker, more dramatic leaf colouring some cultivars are known for depends on strong light; in a shaded corner, that colouring fades toward plain green over time. There’s also a practical safety note: the plant’s milky sap is a mild skin and stomach irritant if the stem or leaf is broken, worth knowing if you have pets or young children who might handle it.
This artificial version holds its full leaf colour and complete foliage permanently, regardless of light level, house moves, or how often it gets bumped — with none of the sap irritation risk.

Styling Notes
Let it stand alone. Rubber plant’s bold, simple leaf shape carries a corner on its own — it doesn’t need companion planting the way finer-textured foliage does.
Pot it up in a simple ceramic or concrete planter, 30–35cm, that doesn’t compete with the leaf’s own visual weight. Browse our planter range.
Care
Wipe the leaves with a soft dry cloth every few weeks to keep the glossy finish clear. Avoid oil-based furniture sprays. Kept indoors, expect years of service with no colour change.
Outdoor Use
Suitable for sheltered outdoor positions such as covered balconies and verandas. Prolonged direct sun and heavy rain shorten the life of any artificial foliage.
