Both belong to the same genus, but they're used for entirely different purposes. If you're after the fragrant leaves for cooking, this ornamental screw pine isn't what you're looking for — this is a decorative architectural plant.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this the plant used for pandan leaves in cooking?

No. This is ornamental screw pine, a larger species with spiny leaf margins and, at maturity, a trunk supported by prop roots. The fragrant pandan leaf used in Singapore cooking comes from a different, smaller, spineless species — Pandanus amaryllifolius. Same genus, different plant.

Does it have a trunk and roots showing?

At 100cm, this represents the plant's younger rosette form — a dense cluster of long arching leaves without a visible trunk. Mature pandanus develops a distinctive trunk on aerial prop roots, but that's a feature of a larger, older specimen.

How tall is it, and how wide does it spread?

Approximately 100cm tall with a 70–80cm spread as the leaves arch outward.

How do I clean it?

Wipe the leaves with a soft dry cloth every few weeks. Avoid oil-based furniture polish, which dulls the matte finish.

Can I use it outdoors in Singapore?

It suits sheltered outdoor positions such as covered balconies and verandas. Prolonged direct sun and heavy rain shorten the life of any artificial foliage.

Do you offer bulk or corporate pricing?
