Artificial Bird of Paradise Plant — 5ft Foliage Statement Piece
The Bird of Paradise (Strelitzia nicolai) is one of the few plants that reads as tropical and architectural at the same time. Its foliage resembles small banana leaves on long petioles, arranged in two strict ranks that form a fan-shaped crown. Our artificial Bird of Paradise reproduces that crown at approximately 5ft tall — thick, waxy, glossy green leaves with the natural splits and curls that mature specimens develop.
This is a foliage plant. There are no orange flower heads — which is exactly how Strelitzia nicolai presents indoors, and why it works in almost any interior palette without competing with your existing colour scheme.
Why a Bird of Paradise Works So Well in Singapore Interiors
Real Strelitzia needs bright, indirect light for hours a day. In most Singapore condos, HDB flats and offices, that light simply isn’t there — north-facing living rooms, internal corridors and lift lobbies kill them within a season. Our artificial version delivers the same silhouette in the darkest corner of a room, and holds it for years.
It also solves the problems real plants create in air-conditioned spaces: no soil gnats, no water rings on flooring, no mould in the pot, no leaf drop for cleaners to sweep, and nothing for mosquitoes to breed in.
Construction & Detail
- Injection-moulded leaves with embossed midribs and lateral veining — the texture reads correctly at conversational distance, not just from across the room
- Wire-cored stems that can be splayed, angled and fanned to fill a wide corner or narrow a profile for a tight alcove
- Matte-finish foliage rather than high-gloss plastic — the single biggest tell in cheap artificial plants is unnatural shine
- Weighted nursery pot base for stability in high-traffic areas and near air-con outlets
Where This Plant Performs Best
- Living rooms: beside a sofa or flanking a TV console — 5ft is the sweet spot for filling vertical space without crowding
- Offices & receptions: softens hard corners in meeting rooms and lift lobbies; a staple of our office artificial plant programme
- Retail & F&B: tropical atmosphere with zero daily maintenance from floor staff
- Sheltered balconies & covered walkways: suitable for semi-outdoor use away from direct prolonged sun and driving rain
- Events & weddings: pairs and clusters well for aisle framing and photo backdrops — see our wedding décor range
Styling Notes from Our Team
Buy in pairs. Two flanking a doorway, window or sofa look deliberate; a single plant can look stranded in a large room.
Pot it up. The nursery pot is functional, not decorative. A ceramic, rattan or fibreglass planter roughly 40–45cm in diameter is the finishing move — browse our planters.
Layer heights. Set a 2.5ft plant beside it to create a tiered grouping rather than a row of matching heights.
Fan, don’t bunch. Spread the leaves in two opposing ranks as the real plant grows. Bunched foliage is what makes artificial plants read as fake.
Care & Longevity
Dust with a soft dry cloth or a feather duster every few weeks; a low-pressure blow-dryer on cool setting clears dust between leaves. Avoid oil-based furniture sprays, which attract dust and dull the matte finish. Kept indoors, expect many years of service with no colour change.
