Why Real Alocasia Brisbanensis Needs a Water Feature

This species — commonly known as Cunjevoi, native to creek banks and wet gullies along Australia's east coast — is a genuinely marginal, semi-aquatic plant. In the wild it grows with its roots constantly saturated, a condition few indoor or standard landscaped settings can maintain. Away from an actual water feature, real specimens tend to struggle. This artificial version delivers the same bold spade-leaf silhouette with no wet-root requirement at all.

An Australian Alocasia

Most Alocasia species sold as houseplants are native to Southeast Asia. Alocasia brisbanensis is the exception — named for Brisbane, close to the heart of its native range along Australia's eastern coast.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does the real plant grow near water features?

Alocasia brisbanensis is a marginal, semi-aquatic species native to creek banks in eastern Australia — it needs constantly saturated soil, a condition few indoor settings can maintain. This artificial version reproduces the same bold leaf shape with no wet-root requirement.

Is it safe around pets?

Real Alocasia contains calcium oxalate crystals and is toxic to cats, dogs and humans if chewed. This artificial version carries no such risk.

How tall is it, and how wide does it spread?

Approximately 100cm with a 60–70cm spread.

How do I clean it?

Wipe the leaves with a soft dry cloth every few weeks. Avoid oil-based furniture polish.

Can I use it outdoors in Singapore?

It suits sheltered outdoor positions such as covered balconies and verandas. Prolonged direct sun and heavy rain are not recommended.

Do you offer bulk or corporate pricing?
