Why Sweet William

Most pink-and-white rose bouquets use the same two or three fillers, which is why they can start to look interchangeable. Sweet William breaks that pattern — it’s a dianthus, related to carnations, with small clustered flowers and distinctively fringed petal edges that read as slightly wild rather than manicured. Mixed through a rose bouquet, it adds a cottage-garden texture that pure roses and baby’s breath can’t.

It’s also a genuinely fragrant flower, with a clove-like scent that most rose bouquets don’t carry.

How to Keep Them Fresh

1. Unwrap and trim. Cut 2–3cm off each stem at a 45° angle under running water.
2. Use clean, cool water. Change it every two days and rinse the vase each time.
3. Strip submerged leaves. Anything below the waterline rots and clouds the water.
4. Keep away from aircon vents, direct sun and fruit bowls. Ripening fruit releases ethylene gas, which ages flowers quickly.
5. Remove spent blooms. Sweet William, baby’s breath and caspia all outlast roses — pulling faded roses keeps the bouquet looking full for longer.

Both baby’s breath and caspia dry well. Once the fresh blooms fade, the remaining stems can be hung upside down for a small dried arrangement that lasts months.
